Have you ever noticed that there are spirals all around us?  They are mesmerizing.  The Things would sit and watch the water spiral down the drain for hours if they could.  In fall the Maple whirligigs will spiral to the ground.  Spirals can also be found all through nature, snail shells, ram horns, fiddleheads, just to name a few.  Fiddleheads.  I just had to say that again.

Spirals can be found in petroglyphs all over the world.  From Ireland, to Malta, to New Mexico there is a common theme of spirals.  On a silly note, cartoons use spirals to depict dizziness or hypnosis.  I think many of us remember the scene in Disney’s The Jungle Book where Ka uses his hypnotic charms.

So what could be the deeper meaning and symbolism of spirals?

Spirals are a symbol of growth and evolution.

Spirals are used to depict physical and spiritual energy.  The Chakras are thought of as spirals of energy, but I’ll come back to chakras another day.

To quote whats-your-sign.com, “In terms of spirituality, the spiral symbol can represent the path leading from outer consciousness (materialism, external awareness, ego, outward perception) to the inner soul (enlightenment, unseen essence, nirvana, cosmic awareness)”.

I associate the spiral to a pin I came across on pinterest stating that yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.  I’m not sure who originally said this, but it certainly caught my attention.  Shortly after reading this pin, I was shopping for new charms to add to my collection.  Lucky for me there was a spiral!

So far this charm has been the only charm used for the Just Beachy Glass Rondelle Bracelet, and has also been added to the Stack Bracelet collection.
