Episode #92 – How to Let Go of Old Versions of Yourself
Introduction to the Crystal Self Healer Podcast
Welcome to the Crystal Self Healer Podcast. I’m Corissa Weaver. On this podcast, we blend the magic of crystals with the science of psychology to help you break free from chaos, ditch the overwhelm, and master your emotions so you can have more energy, get more done and feel better every day. Get ready to unlock your intuition and restore your true power as we cover how you can transform your life using crystals and self-awareness.
Are you ready to get started? Alright, let’s go.
Understanding Self-Identity and Potential
When you think about yourself and who you are, do you have a fixed idea of who or what you can be or do?
Maybe you define your future possibility based on your past accomplishments.
It’s not unreasonable for you to do that.
Just look at the use of cause and effect for careers. The student went to medical school to be the doctor of today.
And that’s the primary way your identity gets created.
You do something, then you define yourself as that.
It might feel safe to see yourself through this lens, but this can be limiting to your potential.
In reality, you get to choose how you tell the story of your life and your potential.
To create the life of your dreams, you need to let go of old versions of yourself, and that’s what we’re going to uncover today.
This episode is going to show you how to stop playing small so you can see what’s possible for you to create in your life.
The stories you repeat about who you need to be or who you are, are what create what is possible for you.
These stories are on auto repeat and dictate how you navigate your daily life.
When you interpret these stories through a definitive lens, they are the thing that will limit what you see as being available to you or possible for you.
Let me explain. If you define yourself by the definition of being a good girl, you will repeat the stories that either support or deny that definition.
Meaning if you carry out the actions of a good girl, you see yourself as one.
Or if you see yourself as failing to dutifully be the good girl, you will repeat stories that confirm this identity of not measuring up.
The key thing to recognize here is that what you have done in the past, the thoughts you have thought, the actions you have taken, are not going to be the ones that can create a new or different future for you.
And that’s why you need to let go of old versions of yourself.
Card Inspiration: The Two of Wands
The card inspiration this week is the two of wands in the what to call in placement.
In this card, we have a central figure standing atop a building, maybe a castle or stronghold, as they look out over the village and the bay of water beyond.
In one hand they hold a globe, the other is a wand, and the second wand is firmly affixed to the building.
Some strong symbolism comes from holding the world in your hand.
This is akin to the world is your oyster, further solidified by the looking out over the water as if they are contemplating their plan to get to where they are going.
But when you face this moment of creating your plan of action, what do you often find yourself doing?
Worrying. Worrying about details.
Maybe this person needs to go somewhere overseas, but they don’t have a boat, or they don’t have the money to pay for passage on a boat, or whatever else can and will be offered up as the hurdle to overcome.
The individual depicted in this card has material wealth, that’s implied by their red robe and hat.
But I’ve seen plenty of people with resources not use them to their fullest because they repeat a narrative based on an old version of who they were.
Each and every one of us sees the world through our wounding, our socialization, and condition.
Letting Go of Old Versions of Yourself
Your job is to deconstruct all of those superimposed meanings about who you are “supposed” to be or whoever you’ve been, so you can actually embody your true divine self.
Where most of my clients struggle is in perceiving that they can be something other than what they have done.
Meaning that if they had money problems in the past, they see that experience as being their future.
It’s as if you feel like you’re denying you went through this phase or period of your life.
When you let go of an old version of yourself, it’s not about erasing your history.
It’s about acknowledging that what got you here won’t necessarily get you where you want to go.
And it’s finding the thread of the narrative around your identity that carries you forward, that will liberate you to new heights.
Let’s go back to the student becoming the doctor example.
In the micro day to day, if the student were to use each individual assignment or test as a measure for whether they are capable of being a doctor, they may hold a pessimistic or negative view of themselves.
They haven’t learned everything, maybe they don’t do well on a few modules or lessons, maybe they’re overwhelmed and struggle to see themselves achieving the end result.
I know you’re sitting there listening, saying to yourself, “but they’re doing it. They’re moving forward toward their goal.”
That right there is the grace I want you to extend to yourself instead of letting old versions of yourself dictate your future potential.
When you use your past reality to define your future status, it doesn’t measure up as a story that propels you forward toward your goal.
And very few people get it perfect right out of the gate, so when you use that narrative of being less than perfect to determine your future potential, you cut yourself off at the knees instead.
Focus on the through line of trying new things and proving to yourself that you can do new, hard, or different things regardless of whether the execution of those things is perfect.
Making mistakes does not preclude you from doing something new or different.
Only using your past mistakes as reasons to not try will do that.
What helps this transformation take hold is to allow yourself to do and experience the new version of you in a safe space that allows you to relax and unfold naturally at your own pace.
A space where you can be seen, held and witnessed without judgment or pressure, as you rewrite your narrative, learn to appreciate your past achievements and mistakes for what they are, and use them as the stepping stones for what’s next.
You get that inside the Crystal Self Healer members portal through the Self-Belief workbook, Crystal Healing Sessions and collective rituals.
Crystal Focus: Lapis Lazuli
The crystal I’m going to suggest here is Lapis Lazuli, and here’s why.
When you are defining yourself by outdated stories and past roles, Lapis Lazuli encourages honest self-reflection to recognize when these narratives are limiting or shaping your perception. You’ll gain clarity about who you are and open space for new self-belief to emerge.
Interpreting future possibilities through a narrow lens of past experiences reinforces self-doubt. Lapis Lazuli supports a shift in perspective away from narrow, so you can access more clearly the broader possibilities of who you can become.
The emotional weight of defining yourself by past mistakes or unmet expectations can prevent you from moving forward. Lapis Lazuli helps you rise out of the mundane and into expanded awareness so you can disconnect from the emotional burden of outdated identities.
Because your past is being used to define your future, you may struggle to see yourself as who you are becoming, or you might not express yourself in ways aligned with that new identity. Lapis Lazuli activates your throat and third eye chakra, allowing you to voice a new narrative that reflects your inner truth. You’ll feel a more embodied confidence in moving forward with purpose and self-belief.
Weekly Ritual: Building Bridge Thoughts
For this week’s ritual, I’m going to offer building bridge thoughts.
You’ll need paper and pen, a candle, and your Lapis Lazuli.
Settle into the present moment by doing a few deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.
When ready, light your candle and set your lapis lazuli near you on the table.
On your piece of paper, take a few moments to write down the version of you you want to be.
When complete, on a separate piece of paper, make three equal columns.
In the left column, write down how you see and define yourself today.
In the right column, write down the corresponding but not yet met qualities from your ideal version of you.
The hard work is in the middle column, where I want you to write down a middle ground version of this quality that you can lean into and believe as true.
Very few people can recreate who they are overnight, and these are the incremental new beliefs that will support moving toward the new version of you.
Keep the paper with your bridge thoughts near you where you can revisit it.
As you go through your day, notice when you habitually think of your old narratives and stories, and then actively choose your bridge thoughts until those become your baseline.
Once the bridge thoughts become your baseline, you can do this exercise again and see how these bridge thoughts allow you to release the old versions of yourself and close the gap for the person you want to be.
Always remember to blow out your candle.
