Every year I look forward to taking our family trip to Oregon to visit my Grandmother.  Can you believe she turned 100 years old last fall?  You go, Grandma!

Oregon is a beautiful state, especially if you like outdoorsy stuff.  I’m not big into outside.

Some of the memorable places we’ve visited are the Sea Lion Caves, the Light House and Crater Lake.  Not much to see at Crater Lake in June when all the snow hasn’t melted and the tourist office still has snow up to the roof… But I hear the water is beautiful.  We just saw heavy mist.

We once tried to visit an abandoned mine town, but the roads became too questionable to proceed down in the rented mini van.  The terrain was also too rough and too far to go by foot in flip-flops.  Who wouldn’t go for a drive into the middle of nowhere in search of a ghost town wearing flip-flops?

The last couple years visiting Oregon have taken on a new level of excitement for me.  A family friend introduced me to a gem faire that has shows a few times per year.  Eeeeek, sparklies!

Now, when it comes time to plan the family trip to Oregon, the gem faire calendar MUST be consulted.  This year, the kids will be starting their summer activities late so I can have 2 days at the gem faire.  Ok, maybe I take this gem faire a bit too seriously.  But they are so pretty.
